Things I'm proud of....

Hey there,

I want to tell you about a few things coming up that I'm proud of.

invite you to a party! Join QC Family Tree for our annual Epiphany Party on January 6th from 6-9pm at 2916 Parkway Ave. The party is outdoors, so dress for the weather. There'll be wings, oysters, firepit, and friends. Please RSVP to let us know you're coming. Here's the RSVP link.

Ok, now for the things I'm proud of. On Jan 7th, a new art show entitled "Us Women" will open at the gallery at Warehouse 242. Created in collaboration with Dawn Anthony, this collection of artwork is inspired by "Sacred Trees," a poem by Jayne Cortez. The works will be open to the public on Sunday mornings, beginning January 7th. We will have an opening reception on Feb 2nd from 7-9pm. All of our pieces will be listed for sale on the online store of the gallery. It would be an honor if you would attend the opening reception.

In May 2020, I joined a small group of folks in conversation on starting a church. Since then, the people of Beloved Community Charlotte have been celebrating, connecting, and growing together as a community of faith. On January 29th, Beloved Community Charlotte will have a service of covenant. People who want to commit to two years of sustaining relationship with the church will mark this day as the beginning of their involvement with BCC as "members". These folks are naming their commitment to each other and are also naming their commitment to the community around them. You are that community and so we invite you to this is a sacred moment to bear witness to the goodness and growth that is happening at Beloved Community Charlotte on January 29th at 5pm at the Ophelia Garmon Brown Center located at 2647 Freedom Drive; Charlotte, NC 28208. And as an added bonus, Dawn Anthony will be leading us in music that day.

In the midst of all this goodness, I want to ask you to please keep me in mind when you come across potential free lance work. My strengths are found at the intersections of creativity, justice, and community care. I am deepening my knowledge and practice of anti-racism, racial equity, creation care, environmental justice, and innovation. If you discover contract job opportunities in these areas, please consider reaching out to me. I'm proud of myself for setting a goal of increasing my freelance work in the upcoming year.

I look forward to sharing good things with you in this new year! Helms iamhelmsie@gmail.com
